LA MER is a transmedia artwork that explores co-creation with the material agencies of the sea. The project consists of a series of submersions of a Debussy record with the piece "La mer" in the sea water, for the duration of the composition. The record is then played, altered by the salts deposited on the surface, causing a series of accidents in the needle, that change the sound.
As the sea participates actively in its own representation it is no longer an idealized entity, but a living matter, capable of affecting the grooves of a physical record.
